fam·i·ly /ˈfam(ə)lē/ noun
1. a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. 2. THOSE WHO LOVE YOU WHETHER THEY ARE RELATED OR NOT
Many of us grew up that family has to be related to us. But really, we find over the years that there are many definitions of who are family is, who we are really close to, who adds to those that are natually related to us. Family looks different for everyone. Most families are not traditional mom, dad and kids anymore. Most families are a combination of step parents, grand parents, nieces and nephews, etc. Some family members may be neighbors and friends.
The truth of the matter is that the structure everyone’s family looks different. We need to teach our children that they don’t need to be insecure at what family members may not be present, but be secure in the family members that are present.
